Hiring a bookkeeper for your small business is a vulnerable act. Sharing your business’s financial state– past and present– isn’t easy. It can also be a cost you may not have budgeted for, and it means– gasp– delegating a major task to someone else!
Sometimes we dwell on the reasons to NOT do something, but if you were to hire a bookkeeper, what is it that would truly be off your plate? What would be deleted from your list of worries that keep you up at 3am? Here are FIVE tasks/skills a bookkeeper takes care of so you don’t have to:
- A bookkeeper assigns a purpose for every transaction in your business. How this helps you: they may be able to get you a bigger tax deduction than if you tried to categorize your transactions yourself.
*You DON’T have to worry about budgeting the time and money a bookkeeper will save you by finding those tax deductions for you.*
- A bookkeeper’s job is to maintain your business’s financial records– keeping track of bank, credit card, and loan statements. At any given time, you and your bookkeeper will be able to access any month’s statement at any time.
*You DON’T have to worry about logging into your bank portal fruitlessly searching for that October 2021 statement that “is no longer available online.”*
- A bookkeeper can generate financial reports at the drop of a hat for any time period. Why this is helpful: you need reports for taxes, as well as if you are applying for a line of credit, loan, or credit card. It can also help to create budgets, among other things.
*You DON’T have to worry about looking up and watching that outdated tutorial on YouTube about how to find, then generate, then read, that report from QuickBooks.*
- A bookkeeper is at your disposal. If you have a great bookkeeper, they will be in contact with you on a regular basis– asking clarifying questions and making sure you have what you need. Do you want your bookkeeper to take on payroll, or invoicing, or communication with your CPA? All you have to do is ask.
*You DON’T have to worry about asking to get your trustworthy bookkeeper to take even more off your plate.*
- A bookkeeper’s job is to know how to fix your bookkeeping problems and how to find answers to any questions you have.
*You DON’T have to worry about that question that’s been bugging you, no matter how complicated (or silly!) you may think it is.*
If you’re still on the fence, it’s likely that a bookkeeper you’re looking to potentially hire will hold a free consultation with you to see if you’ll be a good fit together. The hardest step is the first one. Get out there and save yourself some time, money, stress, and effort that a bookkeeper can take care of for you!
